PHOTO: Coca Tea in Peru

Coca tea

Yup, that coca. Its leaves are served all over Peru — in candies, teas, etc. It’s used recreationally by the locals and as a cure for altitude sickness for tourists. Don’t get too excited; it doesn’t get you high, but is still fun to say you’ve tried!

Click the pic to see it BIG. This photo is part of my Meatless Monday series, in which I feature a new photo each week. Because who likes to read on Mondays? Never miss another one by signing up for email updates!

  1. Odd. How is the taste? I assume pleasant, if it was used so widely?

    • Honestly, Stephen, I can’t remember! It must not have been that good or that bad. Kind of just tasted like tea.
