Travel Links of the Week – 2/8/13

Staycation has been going beautifully — thanks for asking! There’s been a little more pool time and a little less work time than originally intended, but I generally do better when I’m under lots of pressure. With the pool at my beck and call, it’s so hard to get anything done! Sooo, I’m looking forward to the start of school next Tuesday.

Here were my faves from the past week:

———–

In response to the tragic killing of a female tourist in Turkey, there’s been a lot of insane remarks made about solo female travel. In response to the insanity, Amanda at Dangerous Business said it best: Dear Dad: Please Don’t Worry.

———–

Important crap. Literally. The Gates Foundation says we need to reinvent the toilet. (Complete with nifty infographic.)

If you dream of taking a round the world (RTW) trip, you should sign up for BootsnAll’s “Plan Your RTW in 30 Days” email series. It might make someday come a lot sooner than you thought.

I hiked a volcano yesterday and saw my first ever wild sloth. It was, what you’d call, a “life-altering moment.”

Sick of your job? Read this inspiring story about turning your side hustle into self employment, via Get Rich Slowly.

Commence hyperventilation now. A DISABLED BABY PIG USING A TINY WHEELCHAIR. Thank you, Huffington Post.

Happiness or meaning? Do they have to be separate? From The Atlantic: there’s more to life than being happy.

Ahhh, Alaska – how I can’t wait to return to thee. Absolutely loved this Outside Magazine story about domestic bliss + cabin living in Southeast Alaska.

———–

Interesting. How to work as a park ranger abroad, from Off Track Planet.

———–

Smart, well written post by Candice Walsh for Matador: you’ve traveled so much you can’t even date anymore. Though it doesn’t all apply to me, I can relate — and I appreciate her putting a positive spin on a tough subject.

Remember: #firstworldproblems are not really problems. In this brilliant video, Life is Water shows just that.

    • You’re welcome! Unfortunately, that is not the sloth I saw. The one I saw was far sleepier and not as visible. Still, just being in the presence of one was very exciting for me!
